Monetization Cost Attribution

I require that API usage and its costs can be attributed back to the team, application, or consumer that generated them, so the true cost of operating and consuming an API is visible rather than smeared across a shared bill nobody owns. Without attribution, an API looks free to the teams using it and expensive to the team running it, and that mismatch quietly distorts every decision about the API's future. I insist on this in production because a sustainable cost model depends on knowing who drives the cost, and that knowledge only exists if we design attribution in rather than reconstruct it from logs later. Every monetized API must attribute its costs to a clear owner.
