Require that every API design and significant change passes through a documented review and approval step before it ships, with clear owners and clear criteria. I am a big believer in design-first review because the cheapest place to catch a bad decision is in the contract, long before code and consumers are built on top of it. A good review is collaborative, not a gate for its own sake, pulling in design, security, and the teams who will consume the API so problems surface early. When approval is explicit and recorded, we get accountability and a shared bar for quality instead of APIs slipping into production on nobody's watch.
